Luke 22

66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,

67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

71 And they said, What need we any further witness? For we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

Many people, when hearing the good news, reject the existence of Jesus Christ all together and conclude in their hearts that the Bible is not real. Also, many will claim that Jesus Christ lived, but he was merely a prophet similar to Moses, Isaiah, or Jeremiah. However, the passage above, along with many other pieces of evidence across the Bible, proves Jesus’ Godhood and authority.

Why did Jesus have to be the Son of man?

Adam, the first human, was created after the image of God (Genesis 1: 26). That was a great honor because God holds the highest position in the whole world. Even angels did not receive such favor of being molded with the image of God. Great honor demands great responsibility. Adam failed to hold responsibility. Adam could not resist temptation and committed the sin that brought him death (“For the wages of sin is death;”, Romans 6: 23).

Genesis 3

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

As a consequence, humanity has to suffer the punishment. Now, man does not live forever in the flesh and man continuously sins which lead him to eternal damnation (“that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”, Genesis 6: 5). Humanity, because of sin, is destined to be sent to hell, all of us. To reverse this horrible consequence, God had to develop a strategy in which a perfect, holy being must come in the shape of man.

If this being is able to maintain sinless condition, the curse upon humanity can be broken.

Therefore, Jesus must become a child of man. He became the son of Joseph. He became a descendant of David or Abraham. Jesus arrived in the flesh to be called the Son of man.

Matthew 1

16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Luke 1

31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Even though He is the Son of man, His nature is still the Son of God. When people questioned His authority, He did not deny it. He is the Son of the Highest. He is the Word of God and God Himself. There is no one better than God to arrive in the flesh and be sacrificed for our sins so that the damnation over man is broken if he believes in Jesus Christ and repents of his sins.

Unbelief causes people to doubt even undeniable truth. Although people around Jesus witnessed miracles He performed and His wisdom and righteousness, they could not remove veils over the eyes and their hearts to admit that Jesus is God. They could not believe that He is the Christ that they had been waiting for. Unbelief leads people to errors. Christians must not indulge in such unbelief and must always pray to God to receive discernment and clarity to understand God’s revelations and messages for us. God will continue to reveal to us knowledge throughout our lives by talking to us through prayers, dreams, revelations, teachers, preachers, and messengers. If we continue to dwell in unbelief and stubbornness, we will not see the truth and will suffer just as the people in Luke 22: 66-71.
