1 Corinthians 6:

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Sexual immorality is one of the most common and severest classes of sins in human’s history. With the normalization of immodest dressing and unbiblical sexual relations, as well as constant exposure of sexualized images on billboard and social media, sexual sins become out of control.

People have their own versions of what are acceptable in sexual relation. However, God is the One that has final say in the standard of sexual purity.

1. Sex is only allowed in a legitimate marriage between a man and a woman, regardless of what society says.

Genesis 2: 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

This study does not attempt to hurt anybody’s feeling, but to present faithfully the teaching of the bible on the matters of sex and marriage.

Indeed, the Bible even says that it is not a good idea to enter a marriage, but to protect us from temptation and fornication, God advises us to marry.

1 Corinthians 7:

1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

What matters at the end of a person’s life is whether he enters heaven or not. Jesus said that in heaven there is no marriage between a man and a woman. Thus, marriage on earth, though it is important, is not a decisive factor to get into heaven. If remaining single makes a person sin, let him or her marry. If entering a marriage with a person that may invite more sins, let him or her stay away and wait for another suitor.

Mark 12:

18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

Again, sex is acceptable only within a lawful marriage. Sex before marriage is sinful before the eyes of the Lord. If you find yourself in a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship that involves sex, kissing, and touching, you must repent. Born again Christians do not do dating the way the world does. Courtship to learn about each other’s past, dream, life mission, and goal is acceptable. Having sex with a person that is not your spouse is also sinful. Polygamy, which means marrying to more than one wife or more than one husband, is abominable to the Lord. Having sex with a person of same gender is not allowed according to the Bible, even though the law of the land approves it. This is the matter of heaven and hell. If you are serious about heaven, you must abstain from the acts above and follow traditional marriage that God ordains.

Masturbation and pornography are also forbidden either for male or for female. Within the sex life of a married couple, certain acts are sinful as well. For example, the use of condom and contraceptive device or pill, oral sex, anal sex, sex position other than missionary position are all sinful.

Sexual impurity does not only stop at performing the act of intercourse. If a man or a woman looks at another person and lusts after with their eyes, he or she has committed a sin. The thought is already impure. The standard of heaven is high. Hence, dressing immodestly to cause others to fall is another sin.

Matthew 5:

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

One matter of marriage is dowry or bride price. Several testimonies of heaven and hell showed that people fell into hell because dowry or bride price was not paid in their marriage. Dowry and bride price are common in many cultures. To have extra precaution, please make sure this matter is settled in your marriage.

2. Divorce and remarriage are not permissible

Marriage, especially in current days, comes with the high risk of divorce because the law and the society told people that it is alright to do so. Are divorce and remarriage allowable?

The Bible is clear on this matter.

Mark 10:

11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Divorce and remarriage are not from God. God is not happy when someone gets divorced and then remarries. Marriage is a sanctified union between a man and a woman in God’s eyes. To avoid divorce, young people must be cautious when entering a marriage. They must discuss and know how their suitors stand before the LORD. The person has to be a Christian and a Bible believer. Is the person saved from all sins of the past? Does the person really repent and abstain from all sins? Jesus is ready to change anybody, but it is up to the sinner to repent or not.

There is still always a chance that a person encounters a difficult marriage as Satan will find some way to destroy God’s union. Cheating, if found out, can be used to break the marriage before entering it, but not when the marriage is accomplished. We are supposed to forgive our spouses as God forgives us.

Matthew 18:

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Thus, we have to be prepared to forgive our spouses. However, to avoid contracting sexually transmitted diseases and if any repeated behavior happens, some agreed separation may be necessary, but reunion of husband and wife must be resumed.

In cases of abusive relationships, especially physical, separation for safety may be necessary until the matter is resolved, but no divorce and remarriage are allowed.

In any case that a person is forced to stay away from the spouse, he must not agree to divorce and remarry. Examples are repeatedly or dangerously abused spouses and people whose spouses leave for others or leave because of disbelief in Christianity.

1 Corinthians 7: 15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

Notice we are allowed to let them go, but 1 Corinthians 7: 15 does not mention divorce and remarriage, so they are not allowed.

To conclude, we see that sexual immorality is a vast category and the devil will exploit many aspects of it to destroy people and marriages. We must be diligent and cautious not to fall into the enemy’s traps. This list of sins is not fully inclusive and we need to rely on Jesus for guidance and protection from temptations.
